1. Submit Project & Program Experience
This is the most tedious part of the process, as it requires you to document your project & program work experience in hours. If you hold a high school diploma, it is a total of 16500 hours. If you hold a bachelors degree, the total is 12000 hours. This experience needs to be broken down project & program experience. The window open (from the time that you start the application) is 90 days, after which you have to start your application all over again.

Following the submission of your application, PMI will review your application for completeness. This should take 5 business days. Errors and inconsistencies will be identified and communicated to you. All changes, editing, as suggested by PMI, will have to be made online by the applicant.

2. Multiple Choice Exam
Once the previous steps have been processed successfully, PMI will send you an email notification that you are now eligible to take the exam. This eligibility is valid for a year from the time that you receive the email. This is your cue to book the examination with a prometric centre closest to you. Some centres run exams on a daily basis, some run exams multiple times during the day. Note that you can only book a date once you have received the eligibility mail from PMI.
3. Multi rater assessment
After you pass the multiple choice exam, PMI will send out a questionnaire with around 74 questions to your peers, bosses, references and your direct reports. You will need to complete the questionnaire as well and your inputs will be reviewed in conjunction with the inputs from the other sources. You will receive a detailed report of your 360 degree assessment along with the PgMP credential.
