SCORM is Sharable Content Object Relational Model and is a concept for how content is developed and presented. Traditionally, e-learning courseware was developed using HTML. However, Html has its limitations. By locking the content and the rules for presenting that content together into a single document, HTML makes content reusability difficult. The content formatting in an HTML document provides one specific visual layout, and it works only in a web browser. Presenting that content in alternative visual layouts or delivery media involves re-authoring it for each new layout or medium.
Separation of content from its presentation is extremely powerful. This is done through building content that is SCORM compliant. It allows one set of rules to dictate the document’s structure and any number of rules for how to format all content written using that structure.
